Flares, Soccer and Sophistication

I never want to hear that Europeans are more sophisticated then Americans…. I mean at least here in America you don’t see our athletes being pelted with lit flares during a soccer game. I mean.. you might have thought that the security guards might have noticed something funny when people were shuffling into the statidum with a hotdog in one hand.. and oh I don’ t know.. a FLARE in the other.. that they might want to take the flares away. WTF |

Rape – An Epidemic in America
Last night, I was having a conversation with Christopher and one of his best friends and we eventually began talking about rape as a byproduct of our discussion about abortion. I mentioned that 1 in 4 women in the U.S. will be raped in their lifetimes and they both went off, accusing me of making up statistics, thinking that number was too high.
So… it made me realize, well, not really realize, I guess more like reconfirmed that (1) most people know very little about what doesn’t directly affect them, and (2) people in general don’t realize how prevalent rape is.
What I think a lot of men don’t understand is that rape does affect them… if 1 out of 4 women are raped, chances are it’s happened to someone you know… your girlfriend, wife, mother, sister, friend… and when it happens, even when you deal with it and work through it and all that, it still fucks you up, it still affects your self-esteem, it still affects your relationships years later, because you can’t ever erase what happened.

Happy Birthday, Christopher!
Today is Christopher?s birthday.
So… I thought I?d take a few minutes to write a short little post about Christopher in honor of his special day…
When Christopher?s not spending his time devising unexplored methods of making me completely insane, he?s usually hunched over his computer figuring out new ways to code this website, sprawled out on his sofa flipping between ESPN and the History Channel, or kicking my ass at racquetball. In short, he?s sort of a computer geek/couch potato/jock type… with a damn nice build and sexy blue eyes that can usually convince me that I should not be pissed at him even when he deserves it (which is a large percentage of the time).
Inside his noggin, there?s a very smart (but twisted) liberal-hating mind. However, if you go a little further south, there?s a heart in there somewhere that?s actually pretty decent and pretty big (oh wait… big is further south, let’s just stick with decent… )
