A 33-year-old Oregon man on methamphetamine and suffering from mental problems fired 12 nails from a nail gun into his head and survived. The man, who has not been identified by medical officials for privacy reasons, went to an Oregon hospital last year complaining of a headache. The man was attempting to kill himself when he fired the nails into his head.
I seriously think we should impliment a policy that when someone shoes up at a hospital with 2 or more nails in their head we just put them down, there is really no reason to ever reintroduce fucked up people like this back into society.

I agree.. There really should not be any place for people like those. Infact, I am a supporter of legalized and assisted suicide. If someone wants to die, make it easy for them.
But yes, first do try to counsel them, talk them out of it and convince that life is worth living. But if they decide not to listen, hey, it’s their life!

The weird thing about this story is that must not have remembered wanting to kill himself… because it seems like instead of going to the hospital complaining of a headache, he might mention that he thinks his headache was caused by a bunch of nails he shot into his head.
Well he was smacked on our meth.
It’s probablly a toss up between being hyped up on meth, and 1 or more nail puncturing his memory center of his brain!
Oh and on another note yes ppl like this deserve to die, and can’t have any functional use to society. they are more a hinderance than a help!

I think it’s a bit extreme to say they have no use… how else would doctors find out that patients who get nailed 10 times in the head could actually survive? That’s information that could pan out to be helpful when some poor construction worker gets hauled into the ER because his dumbass co-worker didn’t pass nail gun safety 101.
I don’t know much about crystal meth, but that must be more potent than morphine even to make you forget you have nails in your skull…
Christine actually meth is very much more potent than morphine…especially if smoked in a pipe. Smoking results in an instantaneous dose of almost pure drug to the brain, giving a huge rush followed by a feeling of euphoria for anything from 2-16 hours(where morphine is good for about 4 hours at max).
So depending on how much he essentially smoked you can see why he forgot he had nails in his head, because he probably never felt them go in. Plus long term use of the drug results in short term memory loss which would be why he forgot he was trying to kill himself in the first place. He was probably hallucinating from the drug and decided he was better off dead and decided to “nail” himself in the head…then when he came down he forgot eveything and had a headache.
Sorry to get clinical I deal with drugs alot in my work and am required to know effects, duration, side effects etc.
Wow. That’s crazy. I find it amazing what people are willing to do to their bodies… at what point does smoking something that can give you memory loss and completely impair your decisions/make you hallucinate for 16 hours seem like a good idea? That’s not even something that sounds enticing on any level at all… and we haven’t even gotten to thoughts about the nail gun or suicide!
Christine what makes you think drug addicts(generally) hv any idea what the drug is going to do to them… And even if they do Im sure they will be weighing it against what the drug will make them feel
Yes, that’s true… and I can understand it once you become an addict because I think you generally feel the risk to your body is worth the high… but that is to assume that everyone who uses drugs really don’t care if they live or die… which maybe is the case… but that would be a lot of people since a lot of people use drugs. I just think that the human survival instinct is so strong that behavior like that where you will just inject anything into your body and not know what it will do goes against the survival instinct that is inherit in us. I mean, most people wouldn’t *eat* something if they didn’t know what it was… you know what I mean?

On a second note this guy has probably been smoking meth for quite sometime to have the effects it did to not notice nails driving in your skull. Which is more scary the previous info or that fact he probably holds down some remeadial where he is in consumer sales etc… or even worse has a substanial job he is laxing at while their? B/c rock meth that is smokeable isn’t cheap… So where is $$$ coming from

This post was before I began gracing CvC with my presence, but no one seems to have asked the obvious question: did they take the nails out (I would think there could be a lot of bleeding involved) or did they leave them in (will they rust)?
