Hrmmm… Christopher makes some interesting points.
1. I agree that illegal immigrants are a huge drain on the system. And I would be happy to go up against anyone who tries to tell me they’re not. It costs about $30,000 to have a baby in this country if you didn’t have health insurance (prenatal visits, the birth, ultrasounds, etc.). Illegals come here to have their babies because if your child is a US citizen, it’s harder to kick you out. They go to free clinics which aren’t really free since we, the taxpayers, pay for them, because they are illegal and make $4 an hour and have shit jobs that don’t provide health insurance. And I don’t know about the illegals you know… but the ones I know aren’t having just one baby. Try four, or five, or six. Should I do the math for you??? In addition, when you’re making $4 an hour and living with 12 people in one house and your wife doesn’t work because she’s taking care of your five babies, you pretty much don’t have a lot of extra money to pay for auto insurance either… which in California, is against the law not to have. So when they get into accidents (and all drivers do eventually), our uninsured motorist insurance pays the claim. Guess what… that’s not free money either. Last time I checked, the insurance companies were passing that nice little loss onto us… oh yeah… remember us? The *taxpayers.*
2. It is as much the fault of the companies who hire illegals as it is the illegals themselves. If every company stopped hiring illegals tomorrow, I’m pretty sure they’d stop coming here. They come here because even $4 an hour at shitty jobs is better than what they can get in Mexico and some of the other central/south American countries. You can build a fence around the only oasis in the desert, but people will still climb the fence because they want water. Now let that oasis dry up, and they’ll find an alternate water source. That may be better in theory than in practice, but to turn a blind eye to the companies employing illegals who deserve a big chunk of the blame, is also asanine. If companies suddenly couldn’t employ illegals and faced harsh sanctions for doing so… I guarantee they’d figure out a way to become more efficient and run their companies without hiring illegals. And those that couldn’t, should have had a better business model.
3. The protests. Well, quite frankly I’m sick of them too but they have a right to march and wave flags and yell whatever they want. And thank God they do… it’s one of the great things about this country. Now… I agree with Christopher that if you aren’t a citizen here, you don’t really have a right to protest… those freedoms are guaranteed for Americans. If it were me, I’d send Border Patrol to the protests and start deporting anyone who didn’t have a green card. That may sound cold, but the fact remains that it is illegal to be here without a work visa or green card. Just like it’s illegal to drink and drive or steal a car or shoplift. We don’t excuse shoplifters because they’re poor and really needed the thing they were shoplifting. We arrest and prosecute them. And yet, the funny thing is… shoplifters cost society a lot less than illegal immigrants do.
4. Minutemen. Good for them. It’s honestly refreshing to see people who are willing to put their money where their mouth is and do something about a problem instead of just bitch about it. If the border patrol isn’t doing its job (or not allowed to), then someone should enforce the laws. If we’re going to live in a society where we get to pick and choose which laws to enforce then I say let’s stop enforcing speed laws. At least everyone will be able to reap the rewards of that law being ignored. Oh that’s right… we can’t… I forgot. We have laws for a reason… hrmmm… interesting concept.
I say we make the decision as a country to enforce the laws that protect our economy. That’s why they were created and passed. That means… we let Border Patrol do their job and arrest and deport every single illegal that comes across. We build fences that help the Border Patrol do their job effectively. We sanction businesses that hire illegals with high enough penalties that the money they’d save by hiring an illegal instead of paying an American a decent living wage would be far outweighed by the fines if they get caught. We force free clinics to provide services to American citizens and legal residents only and turn away those who aren’t legally here. With the money we save, we could improve the free clinics, eliminate the overcrowding, and actually provide free health care for *citizens* who need it. Problem solved.

I just had another thought… sorry… but this is one of those issues that really does get under my skin. Instead of hiring cheap labor overseas… we could build factories in Mexico and hire the cheap labor there. And then the workers could earn the $4 an hour and STAY THERE. Sure we’d be filtering more money out of our economy, but I think it would make up for itself tenfold by what we’d save in the drain to our system in healthcare, public education, and insurance rates. Plus $25 a day buys a lot more in Mexico than it does in the U.S. I’m a freakin’ genius. I told you…

I don’t think moving buisness out of the country is a good idea. Our economy sux as it is and there is enough buisness’s that have moved factories out of America. Yes illeagals are hired for cheap labor b/c no honest working american will work for $3-$4.00/hr or $25 a day. You can’t live on that! And the buisness men would rather sell out and move shop to some thrid world nation and pay them pennies and then we have to import everything back in! I’m just as sick of hearing about these protest as much as you 2, and I’m not right on top of one either!
I think it would be a great idea to bring the national guard in and just start marching ppl on fucking trucks and cart their asses back home! I would also be in favor of a nice wall about 15-20ft high running across the southern boarder similar to the great wall of China.
As far as the minutemen go…I commend them for the efforts, and hope the continue to do so in the future at least some ppl are smart enough to defend “OUR OWN” borders since Bush’s dumb ass and the military don’t seem to care. I just hope they are all really good shots!
He’d rather use our resources in some baren 3rd world shit hole for nothing while real terrorist plot their next targets! Bring our boys and girls home and defend Our land for people who appreeciate them and get them out of the country that doesn’t want our help!
Fuck the ppl in Iraq leave them as it is and let them fend for themselves. Nobody helped us build America to what it is today, and i didn’t and still don’t see any countries send us money after 9-11! “Foreign Aid” my ass how about “Domestic Aid”

here is why “joe average” doesn’t cry about the illegals, even if they do build the bigger fences and stop the illegals from entering they will not ever take the saved money from the missing deportation costs and give them back as a tax break!

C’mon a tax break are you kidding me! When is the last time the government cut it’s citizens a break? they keep gouging us at the pumps as it is. If they saved money from deportation costs they probbably just hgive it away to Iraq b/c someone feels bad we fucked up their country withour bombs! Guess what it would have been cheaper and more cost effective to just drop a nuke on iraq and iran and turn them into parking lots! We would have had a lot less American losses in the Bush vs Sadaam War in the quest for their Oil… sounds like a good movie or book title doesn’t it. Ahh the truth hurts!

I initially received this in an email, and am fucking disgusted at these people. I think we should find a way to deport their asses. Hrmmm Keith… I checked out that email you linked to, and while I’m not certain, it sounds to me like that is one of those bogus emails created by people against the loosening of illegal immigration policies, intended to incite people to get riled up. I don’t think professors are saying that kind of stuff (at least not publicly if they have an ounce of intelligence). The religious right are notorious for these types of fake emails and several were passed around during the Kerry/Bush election.
Whenever an issue like this comes up, there will inevitably be extremists on both sides and I think this is proof of that. If it made you “fucking disgusted” then I think they accomplished what they set out to do.
I don’t think illegal Hispanics want to “take over” America. I think they just want to be able to work, support their families, and have the same opportunities as American citizens do. That doesn’t mean that we should allow everyone who wants into the country, to just come over and drain our system. But anytime someone tries to get you riled up with fear specifically, it’s probably more of a tactic than an objective view of what might happen. That’s just my opinion.

I’m not fearful of anyone…I’m justsaying tius shot does go on! Maybe not to the extremes made…but who knows maybe said individuals did say these things or close to it you never know unless you’re there. Point being i just posted a pic on brightsyde last night with the link etc. How did I find multiple pics of mexicans burning flags etc. Also on drudge I saw mutltiple pics of these protests, and how iroinc is it the number of mexicann flags outnumber the american flags in the pics almost 7-1. These ppl pledge allegaince to another flag which means another country.
They aren’t welcome by my standards. Fuck them…if they want a better life and want to live here go through citizenship..and earn it. While you are at it learn the fucking language which is native ENGLISH(native now or should I say adopted; since we don’t speak various dialects of native american indians which is a whole nother story) Point is I’m tired of being required to be fluent in spanish to be able to get a teaching job in Southern California and Florida. The last time i checked we speak English in a america. Learn it or leave…
I have all the respect in the world to want to keep your heritage etc. in the home but these fucking parents who refuse to learn the language or learn it half-asses and then can’t, won’t or don’t teach their kids both before they go to school… shame on them…I should have to learn another language to teach in my own country!

Sadley I have read many of those quotes and heard them on the news over the past few years that Keith was refering to on that web page so I know quite of few of them to be true first hand. It’s sad how many Americans in position of power are anti American. It is sad but we do have a large group of people (maybe 10,000 people) with positions of power who really would love to see America torn apart and to allow Mexicans to freely cross the boarder at will. It’s funny but it doesn’t seem that anybody has actually taken any time to see how screwed up Mexico is.. and why would we want to encourage that mentality or life here?
As for being gorged at the pumps… I would argue this is little more then supply and demand and while there are many taxes on gas (we are taxed basically 3 times on the same gallon of gas) the actual tax rate has not risen often or lately. The fact is oil companies have an OBLIGATION to gorge us at the pump.. really they MUST do what is their shareholders best interest. If people will pay $5.00 a gallon then they must if they are not capped by the government somehow charge $5.00 a gallon, frankly I think it is a little silly to get all up in arms with oil companies…they are doing what they are suppose to be doing, supplying a gas at a market driven price. To blame any of the price gorging on the president or a war is also a compeltely unfounded point, did our dependence on forgien countries all of a sudden spike because we went to war? No it has been this way for decades. A dirty little secret.. adjusted for inflation we arn’t even at all time high prices yet, we are getting close but it’s not like things are completely out of wack… I mean look at it like this, it’s much harder and expensive to get 1 gallon of gas to a pump then it is to get 1 gallon of milk to a store yet we don’t mind paying $3.50 for milk… hrmmm.
I also completey wasn’t following your point on nuking iraq or iran frankly and not to upset anybody but our military loses to this point in Iraq have not really even been statistically relivant. That is just a fact, when we go into wars like this we plan on losing posibibly 30,000 troups… 2500 or whatever over 3 years is simply a acceptable. I know that put it lightly but war and results are better measured with relevent numbers then emotion. We have gained a lot from our war in Iraq, and I think over the next 20 years the fruits of our invasion there will prove that…. to not be able to see the potential gains from having a controled democracy in the middle of the middle east is very short sighted.

Are you suggesting that the government makes money off of letting illegals into the country??? Unless you’re suggesting that the government turns a blind eye to illegal immigration so that businesses can flourish without having to pay citizens lawful wages, I’m not sure what you’re talking about.
And exactly which rights did we have that we no longer have because of illegal immigrants? Personally, I’m not worried about my rights being taken away. I’m worried about the effects illegal immigrants have on our economy, taxes, crime, and public education. Our “rights” are still intact…
And actually… color/creed/language, religious background do matter. This particular problem is not stemming from a hodge-podge of illegal immigrants from all over the world. Mexicans make up more than 70% of the U.S. illegal immigrant population http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/01/31/illegal.immigration/ … the second largest illegal immigrant population are from other South and Central American countries… so while we do have Russians, Iraqis, Polish and Asian immigrants here… most of them are not “illegal.” And it makes sense that it’s much more difficult to get into the country illegally via a plane or boat, than it is to simply walk across an unsecured border. So let’s look at the real problem and not get distracted. Securing the US/Mexican border will have the greatest effect on reducing illegal immigration in the U.S.

I find it interesting that so many people have trouble seeing the greater good over what just benefits them directly. The reality is… there are consequences to your actions, whether you like them or not. Steal a car, go to jail. The fact that you really thought that car would make your life better doesn’t mean that you didn’t commit a crime. Want to come to America? Apply for a visa like everyone else. People who save up their money to buy a car (instead of stealing it) aren’t ridiculed. People who follow the rules to get into the U.S. aren’t ridiculed… as a matter of fact, we welcome those type of people here. The kind that don’t respect the U.S. laws… well, why the hell would we want them here? They already show they don’t respect the U.S. So let them stay in Mexico. The concept is painfully simple.
