Happy New Year!

Usually, I do a ‘Year in Review’ type of thing on the last day of December, but quite frankly, the past two months have been quite hectic for me (as you can probably guess by my lack of posting and commenting). I would like to say that 2007 will go down in my book as a good year for me. I always get very excited about new beginnings and while I tend to get a little depressed right after Christmas, the New Year is a good pick me up.

In general, it seems 2007 was a good year for most of the CvC regulars as well: Mara got engaged, PJ got a new job, Trouble, well, Trouble avoided paying taxes for another year by continuing to reside in the Cayman Islands while managing to also avoid any shark attacks. Eric and Jen are still going strong and apparently have very little time to pop in and comment on our posts…

It was a good year for Christopher too. Every year that I spend with him, I feel we get closer. He knows me better than pretty much anyone and despite my flaws (apparently I have a few), he loves me very much. He’s my best friend and life partner, and even though he has his moments where he’d probably benefit to use a bit more tact or patience, he’s a truly great person.

So, I’m going to go ahead and publicly post my resolutions to force myself to be accountable in sticking to them. I encourage you all to do the same if you’d like. And again, I hope you all have a terrific 2008!

My resolutions:

1. Fitness: Lose 15 pounds of fat, gain 5 - 10 pounds of muscle, do Pilates three times a week, cardio three times, and strength training twice a week and work out 6 days a week. Drop from size 4-6 to 2-4.

2. Social: Be nicer to people (I’m still having trouble with not being impatient and condescending to people who are stupid– see, again… calling them stupid is probably condescending). I’m going to be more patient and more easy-going with everyone.

3. Diet: Stop drinking Diet Coke altogether just to prove I can do it. This might actually be the hardest one for me, but I’ve only had 3 diet cokes since I got back from Canada on Dec. 18th which is amazing for me since I drink WAY too much diet coke. I’m also going to cut down on the number of processed foods I eat and I’m going to try to cook and bake more of my own food so I know exactly what’s being put in it.

4. Career: I’m going to be more easy-going with the people I work with and I’m going to start and finish two of my own projects this year (a book and a screenplay).

5. Ecologically: I’m going to make an effort to reduce how much garbage I throw out and put myself on my own recycling program. I’m also going to revisit my idea of a complex-wide recycling program with my landlord who poo-poo’d it the first time I brought it up. I’ll give her a written proposal to manage it myself and find someone who could use the money to come pick up the recycling on a weekly basis.

6. Relationship: I’m going to conquer all the things that annoy Christopher: saying nasty things I don’t mean when I’m mad, moments of insecurity, etc. I know the things he’d like me to work on and I’m going to be much better about them.

7. Financially: I’m going to spend time looking at and assessing my investments, I’m going to take a couple of investing classes to try to get to Christopher’s level so that we can converse about our investments more intelligently, I’m going to save more money by planning purchases better, I’m going to figure out how to start getting my health insurance through our corporation because I’m spending way too much on crappy insurance right now, and I’m going to cut down my biggest spending category which is eating out.

Damn, that’s a lot. Oh well, I have all year to make this happen, right? One down, three hundred sixty four to go. -) Wish me luck.

I won’t dispute that USC is a good team — their numbers this year are even better than last years — but I don’t think you can crown them the undisputed champions this year. Look at Missouri, Oklahoma, LSU, Ohio State, West Virginia and Virginia Tech — all have had pretty good years!

Had Illinois played like they were playing in November, they could have beaten USC. Hell, if we had gotten 2 correct calls from the officials AND held onto the football, we could have given you a decent game at least!! Well, let me add one more condition to that statement — our offensive coordinator would have had to quit calling Mendenhall (#5) on every running play in order for us to be effective too.

WTF was that? It went like this — “Mendenhall carries, 2 yard loss”, “hand-off to Mendenhall who’s tackled behind the line of scrimmage”, “Mendenhall fights his way back to the line of scrimmage for no gain on the play” — over and over again — ummm, coach… they just *might* be keying on Mendenhall… you might want to try a play action fake to him… hello?????

Good Luck on the NY Resolutions, but I really would like to see you add one about some deviant sexual taboo, just to satisfy my home-boy, ‘topher! )
