It’s Amazing I Turned Out as Well as I Did…

So I had to post an email my father just sent me. It was a forward– I love my Dad but he tends to find the most asinine emails and somehow thinks it’s a good idea to forward them on to me even though he’s quite aware of my political views. I’m starting to think he does this just so I can send back responses confirming just how ridiculous the emails are and why he should put a little more thought into who might’ve originated them and what their agenda could be. So… here’s the latest. It was teeming with every propaganda technique I ever learned about, poorly disguised I might add, so I decided to post it. Why not? What the hell, right?

Here goes:

Who is Barack Obama?

Probable U. S. presidential candidate, Barack
Hussein Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Barack Hussein Obama,
Sr., a black Muslim from Nyangoma-Kogel, Kenya and Ann Dunham, a
white atheist from Wichita,Kansas.

Obama’s parents met at the University of
Hawaii. When Obama was two years old, his parents divorced.
His father Returned to Kenya. His mother then married Lolo Soetoro, a radical Muslim From
Indonesia.

When Obama was 6 years old, the family relocated to
Indonesia. Obama attended a Muslim school in Jakarta. He also spent
two years in a Catholic school. Obama takes great care to conceal the
fact that he is a Muslim. He Is quick to point out that, “He was once
a Muslim, but that he also attended Catholic school.”

Obama’s political handlers are attempting to make it appear that Obama’s
introduction to Islam came via his father, and that this influence
was temporary at best.

In reality, the senior Obama returned to Kenya Soon after the
divorce, and never again had any direct influence over His son’s education.

Lolo Soetoro, the second husband of Obama’s mother, Ann Dunham,
introduced his stepson to Islam. Obama was enrolled in a Wahabi
school in Jakarta.

Wahabism is the radical teaching that is followed by the Muslim
terrorists who are now waging Jihad against the western world. Since
it is politically expedient to be a Christian when seeking Major public office in the United State s, Barack Hussein Obama has joined
the United Church of Christ in an attempt to downplay his Muslim
background.

Let us all remain alert concerning Obama’s expected presidential
candidacy. Please forward to everyone you know.

The Muslims have said they plan on destroying the US from the inside
out, what better way to start than at the highest level.

Something to think about, isn’t it?

I don’t know if it’s something to think about necessarily, but it was something I sort of chuckled at. I wrote good ole Dad back and pointed out a few of the obvious propaganda techniques (like mentioning Barack’s middle name “Hussein” multiple times in an effort to conjure up the image of a much more infamous icon with the same name– Saddam Hussein.

I also pointed out that the sentence about Wahabism actually connects with nothing else in the email. It’s simply added so that hopefully you, the reader, will draw your own false conclusions that Obama practices Wahabism (which quite frankly, I’d never heard of before)– but the writer of the article was careful not to actually accuse Obama of such.

I also mentioned that the Muslims did not vow to destroy the U.S., terrorists did. There’s a difference. AND I also pointed out that for the terrorists to switch strategies from suicide bombings to recruiting members of the US Senate to run for president, win, and then “destroy” the country from the inside is impressive, but somewhat illogical and unbelievable.

Finally, I asked my dad to think about who would have something to gain by starting this email? Is it more likely it was started by a Republican who is trying to do everything in his/her power that Barack Obama– as he gets closer to a nomination from the Democratic party– to make sure the Democratic candidate won’t get elected? Or is it more likely that terrorists who typically bomb buildings convinced young Barack to press forward toward a life of politics in hopes that someday he would win a seat in the Senate, gain the Democratic nomination, beat the Republican candidate for the presidency, then put into motion a plan to destroy the United States from the inside out? Which is more logical?

I haven’t gotten a response from Dad yet. I’m not sure I will… -)

I have seen this note of your father’s all over the internet. For me, what really shows the propagandizing is the fact that Obama joined Trinity United Church of Christ in 1988 and has been an active member for many years. What this piece makes it sound like is he joined recently to position himself for the presidential run.

I agree with deloar. There are many things I dislike about Obama as a Presidential candidate, but this isn’t really an issue for me. I don’t think he would be particularly tough on the Islamic terrorists that threaten western civilization, but I don’t actually think he’s an al-Qaeda mole…

Ironically, after reading CvC first, I perused the news feeds and see this story: http://apnews.excite.com/article/20070713/D8QBLJ2G0.html

It says, in part, that a report released yesterday “found the terrorist group is “considerably operationally stronger than a year ago” and has “regrouped to an extent not seen since 2001,“. I can only wonder if the Obama campaign — with its record donations — is the organization behind this resurgence! )

Unfortunately, that’s the crux of the problem — liberals see themselves as saving everyone else from their own misguided actions (.i.e — liberals know best) *sigh*

You won’t really be “enlightened” until you realize that, not only are you not capable of making the best decision for every other Americans’ best interest, you don’t even make good choices for yourself 100% of the time!

“amazing you’re so liberal” - PJ don’t kid yourself her liberal membership card was revoked a long time ago… (like over a year ago).. however my conversative card was also revoked.. now we are both just cynical.

On this email.. Christine is right it is flawed and clearly bs from another political party altho I would suggest that it is more likely coming from Hilary because it is way to early for republicans to even be slightly worried about this.. and frankly there is nothing for them to worry about. I don’t want to point out the obvious, but a former black Muslim with the middle name Hussein and a last name Obama is unelectable, and that is without regard for his record. I will make this prediction now. I guarantee if he makes it to the general election he will lose in a landslide regardless of who is running against him. (Landslide means he will garner less then 45% of the votes).

Interestingly enough… one of the biggest criticisms of Bush (being that his approval rating is so low) is that he uses his “faith” to guide his decisions as opposed to making decisions based on what the American people want (eg– vetoing a stem cell research bill because he didn’t feel it was “right” when 73% of the country supported it). And yet… whomever wrote the email is making such a point of Barack’s religious beliefs (which as far as I can tell– are not aetheist, nor are they Muslim). He’s actually a practicing Christian. But case in point, it’s ironic they would attack him on that level when everyone is bitching about the incumbant being blinded by his own religion.
