Knight Rulez

Once again the media is all up an arms about my boy Boddy Knight the coach at Texas Tech. (Make sure you check out the full post to get a top 10 sound bites) This week they are all bent about him slapping a player. Now the player, the player parents, the AD and of course Bobby Knight don’t know what all the fuss is about… let’s remember in about 4 week’s Bobby Knight will be the all time leader in NCAA wins, lets give him the respect that title earns and also keep things in perspective. There is a reason the schoool, player and parents are all worked up.. because it’s a non issue.

Here’s the details: ( I don’t have a video … yet )

Quote directly from Bobby Knight
“I’m sure there were some cases where I have been wrong but [Monday night] wasn’t one of them. I was trying to help a kid and I think I did. If I was confronted with the same set of circumstances I would do the exact same thing”

Texas Tech athletic director Gerald Myers issued this statement Tuesday:
“I have discussed this with Michael Prince, his parents and Coach Knight. Coach Knight did not slap Michael. Here is what happened: Michael came off the court with his head down and Coach Knight quickly lifted Michael’s chin up and said, ‘Hold your head up and don’t worry about your mistakes. Just play the game.’ In my opinion, Coach Knight did not do anything wrong.”

“Mike has a confidence problem. He wants to play so badly that it hurts him. I told him, ‘Mike we’ve got to have you playing in these circumstances.’ I said, ‘Are you OK playing in these circumstances?’ He had his head down “I flipped his chin up and told him to look me right in the eye so he could do the job we want. I said, ‘Can you?’ And he said ‘Yes,’ and I said, ‘OK, sit down and let’s go.’ If that’s an issue then I’m living in the wrong country,” Knight said.

Prince was quoted in Tuesday’s Lubbock Avalanche-Journal as saying, “He was trying to teach me and I had my head down, so he raised my chin up. He was telling me to go out there and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. He said I was being too hard on myself.”

Now to lighten the mood here are some of my favorite Bob knight outbursts

“I’ve spent a lifetime doing what I think is best for kids collectively and individually. I’ve done it my way and while my way irritated some people, so be it. ?

Bobby Knight’s always been a bit of a loose cannon, but it takes all kinds, right? I haven’t seen the footage of him allegedly slapping the kid, but we all know that sometimes things aren’t always the way they appear. If the kid said it didn’t happen that way, his parents are okay with it, and Knight says it didn’t happen that way… then it sounds like the media are making a big deal out of nothing just to have something to talk about (they do that on occasion I hear).

The media just hates Knight, there’s no other way around it. I know I’d believe the kid, the parents, and the AD over some newspaper guys who are just looking for a story about Knight blowing up.
