Ahhh… it’s back. Daylight Savings Time. I love it. I love longer days, more sunlight, proof that summer is once again on its way.
Well… this is a little public service announcement to remind you all to remember to turn your clocks forward so you’re not late to anything. I wrote a little post about why we actually have Daylight Savings Time last year at this time, and it’s not a bunch of made-up bullshit. I actually researched the answers and all that, so if you’re interested in how this whole flexible clock thing came about, click here to read last year’s post.
And happy spring, everyone!
Daylight saving is not observed by Hawaii, Arizona, Puerto Rico, Saskatchewan, and most of Indiana. These people had it right from the start! There is no need for it to be dark at 5pm during the fall and winter! I’m glad the rest of the country is abolishing this dumbass fall back thing from now on!
Dude. It gets dark at 5pm when you DON’T have daylight savings time. It gets dark *later* when you DO have daylight savings time… hence, “day. light. savings.” So the states, providences, and U.S. territory that you mentioned will indeed have darkness earlier than the states that observe it.
Basically “standard time” is the “real time” which is why we fall back in the winter and fall when it is too cold to be outside and therefore the energy savings from daylight savings time isn’t very effective anyway. Although, I agree it would be great not to fall back and to just operate on savings time throughout the entire year. But I think you might have been confused because if they’re not observing daylight savings, they operate in “fall back” mode every single day.
no they do that so we have to use our lights more so energy co. make more money… and kids didn’t have to walk to school in the dark?
actually i could give two shits when it gets dark in the fall b/c im playing hockey inside then…as long as i got time to play golf in the fall, spring and summer after work I could care less!
I live near the equator, day and night in here are nearly the same length (12 hours), so no DST for us. It’s summer here now and the heat is unbearable, best time to go to the beach! Beautiful beaches we have here, especially Boracay or more popularly called “Bora”
The Philippines did implement a daylight savings scheme 15 or so years ago, i don’t remember what the reason was but it was i nuisance as i had to wake up an hour earlier.
Anyways, longer days or night don’t really matter to folks who have no regard for time in whatever they do as long as they could do it.
No DST here and I’m glad that such a dumb and confusing thing is not there in India. I mean setting the clocks all over an hour ahead(or is it behind? :-/ ) is quite dumb just to get more daylight in the day.
Christopher: Mayday Mayday.. The layout is all screwed and the tags is showing up wrong data.
aJ,
Workin on it, hopefully I’ll have all fixed up in the next 24hours.
I live in perpetual summer… b-) We don’t have DST, we have what’s called ‘CMT’ ['CayMan Time'] basically everthing takes place 30 minutes to 3 hours AFTER it’s scheduled to… The bright side of CMT is that no-one is ever LATE for anything…
Hehe… well, I can see why you wouldn’t need it in a place that has long daylight hours anyway and is perpetually summer weather. I remember in Nebraska (having grown up there) that it was actually much more cost-effective because with an extra hour of daylight, people stayed outside longer and used less electricity turning on lights inside. It was also helpful to the farmers who work long days in the late spring and summer, because once it got dark for them, they had to call it quits for the night.
Now that I live in California, I just like having that extra hour when I go to the beach or out hiking or whatever. It stays warmer a little longer and things end a little later.
I agree with Aj DST is just crazy… maybe it makes sense in a country as big as yours but am happy my clock is the same through out the year
Haas…DST isn’t necessary in this country at all regardless of size. I would be much happier, and iun fact am happier knowing DST is gone. There is no point! When it’s nicer out we have the dsaylight to our disposal. When it’s not we don’t need the daylight anyway b/c we are inside b/c it’s too fucking cold to be out! Let it be dark! At least youcan rely on your sleep schedule being accurate all year long!
Very true Keith.. The biological clocks are soo much better than adjusting clocks all over :-&
Well, when it’s DST, you also have to adapt your body clock with the time adjustment.:-t
Stop pissing and moaning!
Is your body really that fragile that it can’t adjust to a *one hour* time difference twice a year? Jesus Christ. When I go to Asia, it’s a 16 hour time difference and your body takes a few days to adjust on each end to that. The truth is… the additional hour of not turning on a bunch of lights in a large fraction of the houses across the country in states that do have DST, equates into a much more efficient energy savings than if DST wasn’t observed. Conserving energy (even if only for part of the year) equates into cost savings and lowered energy prices, and again… like I mentioned before, the farmers can get an extra hour of work in before they have to call it quits. The entire basis of your argument is that it’s bad because your sleep schedule gets messed up??? Seriously… that’s narcissism at it’s best. LOL!
It actually has nothing to do with converving energy tho… maybe just a nice side effect.
narcissism maybe, you might want to quit using suchbig words for some of our readers though..like *uh hem* your boy!
They may have to look it up before they understand the post! haha anyway call it what you will i just don’t give a shit…and I’m glad they are doing away with it end story!
Oh Christine,, ye smy body is that fragile that 1 hour of sleep makes all the differnece in the world
Well… at least you’re honest about your body… and your narcissistic issues.
And btw… maybe my boy (am I claiming him as *mine* now???) can’t *spell* big words, but he does know what they mean… especially the word “narcissism!” He *must have* heard that term before! LOL! j/k… christopher…
