Love Might be Crazy, but Not Blind…

Okay… just when you think you’ve heard it all… I know I’m late to the punch on this, but a guy in New Jersey is now offering to do something similar and it looks like this may be where this insane trend started…

A woman– a rather attractive one at that (I posted a pic of her before and one after at the bottom)– went on ebay and offered to get a permanent tattoo on her forehead advertising anything the winning bidder wanted to advertise.

Karolyne Smith had her forehead tattooed with the web address of a gambling site after auctioning off advertising space on her head to pay for her son’s private school fees. Goldenpalace.com met her reserve bid of $10,000 and the tattoo of their logo was put on.

Karolyne said: “”I really want to do this. To everyone else, it seems like a stupid thing to do. To me, $10,000 is like a million dollars.”

“I only live once and I’m doing it for my son. It’s a small sacrifice to build a better future for my son.”

According to the article I read about it… “Karolyne did not take the decision lightly. She discussed it for more than three weeks with her boyfriend Jeremy Williams.” What the hell? Jeremy had three weeks to talk her out of this and he didn’t? What kind of boyfriend is that???

Smith’s eBay auction attracted more than 27,000 hits and 1,000 watchers. Goldenpalace.com also gave her another $5,000 — I’m certain they felt sorry for her.

While I really respect mothers who will sacrifice everything for their children, honestly, I can think of about a hundred better ways to get my hands on 10 grand, but hey… to each her own, right?

What justifies a better way? I mean look at her.. she is a ugly as fuck to begin with.. I can’t say she really messed up her face. I do however respect her for doing this for her kid.. hopefully that is the real reason and she isn’t just going to blow it on meth.

This idea that we would sell a part of our bodies for any reason is a little disturbing to me… I don’t know… the whole thing is kind of disturbing but I don’t know why exactly– I mean, she’s free to do whatever she wants, it’s her body. And people do put tats on their faces for less noble reasons… but hrmmm… the whole thing just makes me feel really sad.

I don’t think she was ugly before. She’s no Miss America, but sometimes I think Christopher can be a little too critical with how people look.

Oh… to answer Christopher’s question about better ways to get $10,000. Well… I don’t know her situation, but if it were me, I’d either get a second job, or hold some sort of fundraiser, or find some sort of creative service I could sell, or something besides becoming a walking billboard and selling off part of my body that way. But that’s just me.

Do something creative and get me 10k then. Besides I’m sure we could get like 100k for your pretty face.

“Besides I’m sure we could get like 100k for your pretty face.”

Quite possibly the strangest way to go about complimenting someone I have ever witnessed. )

I agree, Christine. Plenty of other ways to get the money. Then again, we can see that she perhaps is not the most creative/talented gal in the world, based on the fact that her ad to get people to advertise on her forehead is made out of foam crowns and glitter glue.

And, someday when she wises up and wants to get it removed, she is going to have to spend thousands that could be spent on her son…

Or maybe he will get the education and if he ends up like lawyer he will be making $500 an hour and he can pay for the removal… I really don’t see this as all that bad, the reality is a lot of people get tats on their faces, at least she got one for a good reason.. and it’s not like she messed up a good thing.. “her face” in the process.

J… it takes a lot of creativity to make foam crowns with nothing but glitter glue. LOL! -)

Yes, most of Christopher’s compliments take a little thought to figure out if you should feel good about what he just said, or not. You can be sure that if Christopher desperately needed 10,000 dollars I’d figure out a way to get it for him, but I can also assure you, it won’t be by tattooing an ad on my face.

Good point about getting it removed. Although I’m guessing someone would volunteer to do that for free for her. The best thing she can hope for is that goldenpalace.com goes out of business soon and someone volunteers to take it off. Even so, I think getting them removed leaves scars.

But, what happens if they change their URL?

I can think of at least one other body part she could have ‘rented’ out to make the money… It would have taken a hell of a lot longer to amass the cash however, but with the right lubricant, it would probably have been much less painfull… Better to be a whore than an idiot… That’s my motto…

Living in CA, you have some pretty seriously skewed values on money. Move to the Midwest sometime, and discover that there are people who can (and do!) make a pretty decent living on $20,000 annual income. To them, $10,000 is a downright fortune.

We have a saying out here that’s pretty accurate:

“If it costs more than $75,000, it damn well better have a basement.”

Selling your face for $10,000… and we have skewed values? I doubt if she’s living in a place where $20,000 is a decent income, they’re charging $10,000 for private school… No one would be able to afford that.

I should point out that values on money are only skewed in caparisons to the Midwest not necessarily to CA. Example if 10k in TN is like 20K in CA, we just care about 20k like someone in TN cares about 10k.
