Somebody once told me that despite what you look like, people will respect you if you’ve got a brain…
They might respect you, but that doesnt’ mean they’ll give you a raise…
A recently released study suggests that among people with equivalent education and experience, if you’re a hottie, chances are you’re making 5% more per hour than your less attractive colleagues. In addition, people with “less than average” looks make approximately 9% less an hour…
I guess this makes sense, right? We all like to be around attractive people… so if you had to choose between hiring a salesperson who was attractive and one who wasn’t, who do you think could sell more? Probably the one that people like to look at…
So what factors prevent people from being a money-making hottie?
For women, if you’re overweight, you’re likely to earn less than women with the same qualifications who are within recommended weight guidelines. So ladies… that membership to the gym may just end up paying for itself.
Men are a little less lucky. While most women have a significant measure of control over their weight, men are considered less attractive if they’re short. Among caucasian men, economists found that men earn a 1.8 percent wage increase for every inch of height they have over the national median.
Maybe you’d better reconsider the money you planned on spending for that graduate degree and visit your plastic surgeon instead…
