Christopher the Pyro quibbed this
It is rarely intentional on the mothers part, being incompetent is probably not abuse. I believe that usually in these cases the mother simply loves her child and cannot deal with the short term pain on not seeing him happy. The proper course of action should in my opinion be some type of counseling for the mother to help her deal with the short term pain of watching the child spit foods out. It is clearly bad the child is overweight and it is clearly the mothers responsibility to help him not be fat until he is old enough to choose to be fat.
Brian the Virgin got all philosophical
Completely agree… just so sad to see the child is overweight.
It is just wrong and irresponsible for parents not helping the child to
not be overweight.
I think it would help everyone would take this very seriously to help
the situation: Parents, schools, government, etc.. all should actively
involved in helping children to eat right and get good excercise.

At least a child will someday grow up and either get in shape or not, it is even more sad to see an adult fat ass who is choosing to be that way.
Christine the Lioness thought this
Actually it’s worse for a child who doesn’t have a choice in the matter… they eat what their parents feed them. An adult has the power to make changes if they choose to. Brian… not sure what your position is on this. You believe government should mandate what parents can feed their children? Should there be laws that put parents in jail for allowing their kids to get obese? Does a 23 year old teacher have the right to call a parent in and lecture her on what to feed her kid? How do you see school and government being “actively” involved?
One thing that used to infuriate me to no end was when I taught Phys Ed for two years, grades 3-5. Parents were allowed to write notes to keep their kids from participating in P.E. if they weren’t feeling well, etc. The only parents who ever wrote notes– and wrote them all the time– were the parents of the fat kids. I had three really overweight kids that barely participated in P.E. at all… so how exactly is a school supposed to have the power to do anything in this situation when they can’t even force a kid to participate in a mandated class twice a week?
