Ode To Christopher

Okay, okay… I’m usually pointing out Christopher’s imperfections, but this time I really have to give the boy props for being the all-around best boyfriend ever.

So last night, while I’m in the middle of working on a script I have a really tight deadline on, my computer crashes. I panic. I call Christopher - 4 times. No answer. Tears well in my eyes and I freak out. I drive to his house. I bang on his door. I hear the toilet flush. Christopher comes to the door. I tell him as calmly as humanly possible that I accidentally pulled out the cord to the keyboard and the whole thing went black. He tells me to go home and he’ll come over in just a little bit to fix it.

He comes.

He looks at the computer. He says, “This is bad.”

Now… despite the fact that earlier in the day, he told me how much work he needed to finish, which is more than likely why he shut his cell phone off when I’d called earlier, he takes apart my computer, and takes home my CPU, monitor, keyboard, and mouse– and spent the next few hours trying to fix the computer.

Then he called. And told me the bad news. It would be cheaper and quicker to get a brand new computer.

So he meets me at Circuit City and spends the next hour helping me pick out a new computer.

Then he goes home and spends until 4 AM installing software and adding upgrades.

Today, at 11:30AM, he comes over to my apartment and sets up the computer. It’s loaded with everything I need and all the documents had been recovered and loaded onto the new one. Then… instead of getting his work done, he spent the next 5 hours driving to Beverly Hills to go to a play my mom had invited us to.

Once we got back to my place, he sat down to watch t.v. and I made him dinner. As we were eating dinner, I mentioned my boss would like him to give notes on the first cut of our latest movie (Christopher had given notes once before and my boss– the producer– thought they were very helpful and had asked me in our last meeting to see if Christopher would watch this next movie and do it again).

So he did. He watched the movie and wrote notes. At 9:30, he finally walked out the door, having dedicated his entire weekend to me.

I am lucky to have him. Despite the fact that I don’t think I’m really very good in relationships much of the time– I hope he sticks around forever. He is one of the most generous people I’ve ever met– a truly great human being who would do anything for the people he cares about, and I am so blessed he chose to care about me.
