Ozzy’s Fucking Pissed

I just had to post on this because it’s HILARIOUS. Here’s the article which I’ve condensed… I’m reproducing it from Dave’s Daily (not exactly a reliable source so I’m not sure if it’s real… but if it is… it’s awesome.)

Ozzy Osbourne is up in arms because police in Fargo, ND set up a sting operation by sending invites to wanted criminals saying they’d been invited to a party in which Ozzy was supposed to be a star guest. Ozzy was playing in a nearby arena so the invite seemed legitimate (at least it did to 30 of the 500 invitees who showed up and were promptly arrested for outstanding warrants).

But Ozzy said: “Instead of holding a press conference to pat himself on the back, Sheriff Laney should be apologising to me for using my name in connection with these arrests. It is insulting to me and to my audience and it shows how lazy this particular sheriff is when it comes to doing his job.”

Cass County Sheriff Paul Laney said he “meant no disrespect toward Mr Osbourne or his show. What we did was a very creative law enforcement technique to lure individuals who had active criminal warrants to come to us.”

So Ozzy, being the quick-minded individual that he is, instead of being glad that 30 criminals are now off the street, is UPSET that the police would stain his stellar reputation by assuming that criminals would come to meet him at a party?

It begs the question of exactly what reputation does Ozzy believe he has? And how exactly was the Sheriff lazy? The sheriff was pretty fucking clever if you ask me. I guess Ozzy feels that law enforcement would better serve their community by tracking down criminals one at a time?

Ah, Ozzy. Why don’t you just chill and focus on ways to test those bats for hepatitis first. -)

The Osbournes was so funny because it was the modern day reincarnation of the Lucy show — there was always some ridiculous plot or scheme in the show which resulted in one of the main characters being embarrassed or ridiculed.

The sad part is that it was billed as Reality TV! What a joke. Ozzy’s (current) life doesn’t resemble anything like reality for 99.75% of the population.

Oh, I forgot to add one point — Ozzy, the criminals were probably lured to your appearance because they’re so heavily involved in the drug and music cultures. Hmm, now why would Sheriff Laney think they would be tempted to meet you?

well yeah sure they were lured to him, but think of it this way:
How would you feel if your name was used to lure some criminal out of the darkness. I dont know, lets say your ex-schoolmates were criminals now and you havent seen them for many years. But now someone in the law enforcement piced together that you were together in school and now sends them invites saying you are hosting a reunion party and that they should come… When they do come; BAM!! Under arrest…
Its impersonation & abuse of trust and name…

And you perhaps think its an inovative new tehnique that should be widely spread amongst all of law enforcement?

It’s not exactly innovative, Abysium, and has, in fact, been around for quite a while. The earliest I remember seeing it was a scam which said “you’ve won a free wide screen TV” that was done in conjunction with a Super Bowl in (I think) New Orleans several years back. About 30-40 idiots showed up to win their free TV and were hauled away in handcuffs. I think it was even on America’s Most Wanted , or perhaps it was America’s Stoopidest Criminals.

Honestly, I would think it was *very* funny if they did the same thing with my high school reunion — hell, there are a few classmates I would have liked to tazer back when we were in high school, and a few girls I would have liked to handcuff, but for different reasons )

Still, I do see that Ozzie may have a copyright on his name and image and perhaps the sheriff should have gotten his permission first.

I disagree. I really don’t think law enforcement did anything wrong. Regarding Abysium’s question about how I would feel if my name were used, it’s a little different. Using a private person’s name and then publicizing you used it implies the criminal was coming to see you because he had a personal relationship with you and could imply you’re connected to criminal activity, but a lot of “fans” want to go meet Ozzy for the first time and in no way does it suggest Ozzy was hanging out with these criminals.

I don’t see how anyone was hurt in the fact that law enforcement used his name. It’s actually odd, I think, that we somehow expect the law to be truthful all the time and catch these criminals “fair and square.” Would they have come if the cops sent invites saying “Come to a party we’ve set up as a hoax so we can arrest you?” Do we or don’t we, as a society, have an interest in getting criminals off the street? Was Ozzy or his reputation damaged in any way? I don’t see how. And it appears that no one made the sting public except Ozzy who was complaining about it which is why the media picked it up.

I think for the Sheriff to be negligent, there has to have been some sort of damage sustained by Ozzy. Simply being pissed off isn’t damage.

OH, I think there’s little room for doubt that Ozzy is damaged )

LOL. I have a feeling that happened long before the Sheriff ever heard of him.

Cant say i think its right to have law enforcement use its authority in such a way… (for i think its an abuse of personal indentity data) but if you think its ok, go ahead… anyways am “as safe as possible” far-far away…

I think that ozzy is right… sprays troll replant all around.
Using a famous guys name to catch criminals is good and all. But ding it with out his permission is low. If your opionion about the drugs is valid. The the cop could have used 1000’s of other things as bait.

The cops waz lazy. And for the record. If not for ozzy and the others rock would not be what it is today.

But of course this generation can’t think past the tips of their own noses. And hey he does have a fan base always have always will.

Unlike the people who post here he will be remembered long after after you have died. And gone back into the soil.
But you have your opinions. And sadly in this world that is all you will ever have.
But you revel in your self importance. And insult those who paved the way for the great music we listen today.

man people are always trying to make a name for themselves as someones else’s expense. This what ever you call it the cop… reporters. Just like cockroaches.. Skat beat it. You opinion means nuthing to anyone but you.

Don’t worry, Bob, we won’t spam your “log files”– only because you asked so nicely.

With regards to Ozzy’s influence on what “rock” is today… uh… I’m not sure that was ever in question… but I guess if you’re having trouble wrapping your head around the real issue, that fact might seem somehow relevant.

And while I can’t possibly hope to die with having done as much good for the world as Ozzy (???), perhaps I, with much reading and experience, can someday be at least as insightful and wise as you are.
