Chaim the Groupie got all philosophical
I agree whole-heartedly that people choose to avoid slimming down, and people make choices that lead to them getting fatter or remaining fat. Ultimately, the fat person alone is responsible for their weight, and no one else. Even a child who is oveerweight from early life can eventually decide to shed the pounds if they so choose… In this country we have a bizzare cultural tradition of blaming others for our problems. For instance, “It’s not *my* fault that I’m fat, but rather, the fault of McDonalds”, or, “I’m addicted to food.” (The latter is one of the silliest things I’ve ever heard. When you look at it, we are *ALL* addicted to food! Most people need to fix three times a day!)
AND, we are obsessed with diet books and diet pills. Everyone wants some magic to help them lose weight. They want to change just one thing and have it all go away. I like to joke around with peopel that I have discovered the most miraculous diet program in history. When people then prompt me to continue and seem interested, I say “Eat healthy food and excercise.” This program of mine rarely generates much enthusiasm, and if I were to write a book of my program, it would be a surefire flop.
People are idiots.
