I’m pretty sure this one is real but I could be wrong. I thought I got it from like National Geographic but I’ve had it for so long that now I have forgotten.
A friend and I were out on our waverunners a couple years back. As we were pulling into a beach area to meet up with some others, we noticed a large shadow just below us, only 50-75 feet from where familys with kids were swimming [in about 3 feet of water] We figured it was a tiger shark… Which can be dangerous… So we ‘herded’ it back out to deeper waters… As my friend drove over it, I estimated it at about 14 feet… Even being out of the water, it was scary.
Well, growing up on an island, you see sharks… Most just swim the other way… Once I was spearfishing in about 70 ft of water with 2 good friends, Lee and I dove after some fish, and when we looked up, his younger brother Darin was motionless above us… There was a school of maybe 50 small [5-6 ft] hammerheads passing him on both sides… We didn’t move until they passed.
Strangely, Darin’s nose always bled when we were freediving, and they still didn’t bother with him. We all shat a few bricks still.
I still want to do a shark dive someday. I’d have to do a little more diving to feel comfortable with it though, right now, I’m so rusty, I get nervous just doing the dive itself. At some point I’m going to commit to getting back into diving. The water here in southern Cal really sucks though. I’d rather do it in Hawaii or the Carribbean.
Funny how many people will voluntarily strap on self-contained underwater breathing apparatus to go and pet a bunch of sharks… Ask them if they would go into a room to pet a few dozen hungry pit-bulls…
Are you sure that the image is real and not photoshopped?
I tend not to trust such sensationalist pics on the Internet!
Now would be a good time to practice his paddling..
AJ,

Looks photoshopped to me too.

I’m so not down with that.. I’m sorry that family would be getting served up.. I would not be herding any sharks out to sea.
