Stop Calling Yourself a Christian

So I heard on the news yesterday (and the fact that this even made the fucking news is another situation all together that pisses me off because we all know there?s no such thing as bad publicity and the media needs to quit feeding into the agendas of these psychotic fuckheads) that a particular ?Christian? organization is up in arms about homosexuality again. These intolerant freaks? and I refuse to mention their name because I, unlike the media, will not play into their attention-whoring need for free promotion ? is boycotting Wells Fargo Bank because they believe the bank is too gay-friendly. Whatever that means… Is Wells Fargo now offering free gay orgies with their business checking accounts??? God forbid we should be ?gay-friendly.? Or friendly to anyone for that matter. We should just be a bunch of intolerant, judgmental fucks who have really nothing better to get outraged about than whether or not a bank has decided that someone who chooses to sleep with someone else (which last time I checked was no one else?s business anyway) is welcome at that bank??? I mean honestly… I?m not the best Christian in the world… Jesus probably wouldn?t be all that proud of the fact that I?ve used the F word about twenty times in this post… but I don?t know how these people can call themselves Christian at all. What happened to ?We are all God?s children…? and ?He who is without sin cast the first stone?? Jesus (at least the one you can read about in the Bible) wasn?t about using purchasing power to force others to be more judgmental… Jesus was about tolerance, and love, and forgiveness, and acceptance.

And the reason this really pisses me off is because I do identify with being a Christian. And these a-holes are fucking it up for the rest of us. We?re not all homophobic pricks who need to get a life.

Every day it seems like someone has drawn a new line to seperate themselves from everyone else and make themselves superior. If it?s not boycotting a bank because it?s friendly to a group of people you?d like to persecute, it?s getting offended because a store chose to use ?Happy Holidays? over ?Merry Christmas.? Well guess what… the stores can use whatever seasonal greeting they want and the last time I checked… and one of the

Oh… but wait… it includes Hanukkah too. Damn them! How dare they include the Jews! We?re Christians, dammit! We should come first. Those banners at Target should be directed to us and us alone! How dare they use the Jews to twist another religious holiday into an exercise in capitalistic venture and spike sales in December. That kind of ambush marketing and superficial commercialism designed to entice people to spend money should be reserved just for those who believe in Christ. Those fucking Jews… oh wait… Jesus was a Jew. Well whatever…At what point did we get so scared that we?d be left out? When did we become so scared that letting people decide that they want to have sex with someone of the same gender might somehow threaten our own heterosexual way of life? When did we take what should be the most peaceful, calm, giving, loving time of year (Christmas) and turn it into a reason to fly off the handle because the commercial aspect of the holiday decided to include other religions than just our?s? Where is the threat??? ?Cuz I just don?t see it. And I think all these lines that are being drawn all over the place are hurting us more than they help us.

If it?s not the ?Faux? Christians against the gays, it?s the Christians against the Jews, or the blacks against the whites, or the Democrats against the Republicans, or the consumers against the corporate conglomerates, or the employees against the management… the list goes on and on. What happened to solidarity, unity, being an American? America has always been proud to be a melting pot where people of different ethnicities, religions, languagues co-exist in the strongest country in the world. That?s what America is about. When did being American become ?un-American??

I think we need to turn this around.

And the first thing we can do is to call these assholes who use ?Christianity? as a shield and justification to be racist, prejudice, sexist, and homophobic on their bluff. They?re not Christians at all. The second thing we can do is support corporations that don?t cowtow to the threats of these groups who try to force them to follow whatever skewed morality they?re trying to spread. I don?t know how Wells Fargo has or will respond to the latest boycott, but if they refuse to stop being ?gay-friendly,? show them your support and let them know that sometimes the smallest cricket makes the biggest noise. At least until you step on it. -)

Well see I disagree with Christine, most people are homophobic or at least not Gay. It’s smart buiness to cater to the majority. If 93% of the country is straight and 80% don’t approve of gay people (those are roughly the right %’s then it’s just stupid business for well’s fargo, ford or anybody else to cater ot the Gay community at all. They are just hurting the majority of their business.
The Happy Holiday’s thing makes sense to me.. I mean isn’t it refering to the a period of time from Thanksgiving to New Years.. and all the holiday’s inbetween?
I really don’t have a problem with people not liking different groups of other people… Christines 6th grade Mike Moore logic on this one isn’t real life, so we shouldn’t pretend we live in an utopia Jew’s can’t approve of Christians, and vice versa, blacks dont’ have any reason to like whites, (an nobody has any reason to like mexican’s). Really things have gotten so annoyingly PC it is maddening, if you want ot say Merry Christmas go for it if you want to say fuck black people, that is your right also, the truth is this country is a much better place for all races, religions, then at any time in our history.
Are people who are homophobic not Christians.. hardly, are people who hate President Bush or hate Saddam Hussain, or Brittny Spear’s not Christians.. Nope. We can’t force people to accept things otherwise it just breeds more hate. 100 or 150 years from now people maybe only 50% of the country will be homophobic, and I really don’t have a problem with heterosexual people opposing homo’s or vice versa.
I’m pretty sure in the end Wells Fargo is a business and it will remove whatever was making it look gay friendly.. it has an obligation to it’s shareholders and losing business because it is gay friendly is bad business.

Christopher, once again, is missing the point. If you’re going to call yourself a Christian, then minimally, you need to subscribe to Christian teachings and principles. I can hardly call myself a Democrat if I really believe in Republican views and consistently vote Republican. Sure, you can be anything you want… be a Jew-hating homophobic for all I care. But then don’t hide behind the name of some organization that preaches something completely different just so you can justify having your issues.

And the whole PC thing truly has gotten out of control… but so has the hate for other groups simply because they’re not like you. Sure, it makes sense to dislike a neighbor because he constantly drives over your lawn with his low-rider when he’s drunk. Sure, it’s okay to dislike your co-worker because he steals shit out of your desk whenever you take a smoke break. The reaction makes sense because those people are doing things that adversely affect you directly. But to dislike someone because they’re gay, or Muslim, or female, or black, or they make more money than you is YOUR issue. If you have a problem with someone for a reason that doesn’t directly affect you, then you need to just shut the fuck up and get over it. Don’t expect the rest of us to care, because you’re nothing more than a whiney, prejudice, insecure, narrow-minded fuck. And you certainly have the freedom to be a fuck, but the reality is… if you’re not part of the solution, then you’re part of the problem.

Not that there was ever any room for racism…but now more then ever…in 2005 there is sure as hell no room for racism of any kind.

and yet katie, racism is still around; its just that its more discreet then it was years ago. Unfortunetly pompas ppl still exist b/c racist parents are teaching their kids to be the same way and it will alwayz exist but like i said its not outwardly shown as it was before. But I have to agree with Christian on this one. To many ppl are hiding behind religious aspects and its so annoying. In all reality I could care less what ppl do, say, act, feel, ect ect as long as they dont pull stupid junk into it or it bothers me. If you have issues, deal with them yourself. Dont try to bring in all the idiotic points that seem to make things better. Then again ppl in my opinon, well most of society for that matter, are just well dumb and its very sad what ppl will do just to prove a point and to make other ppl agree with them or whatever. Anwayz my point, I agree with Christian 100% on this one and good post girl )

I’ve spent the last four days writing on my own blog about how the celebration of Christmas isn’t Christian in the least. So, why do people care if we say “Happy Holidays”? ???

Christine the Lioness added

I guess in all honesty, a lot of people see the commercial aspect of celebrating the holiday as closely connected to, or even a substitute for, the religious aspect. The American culture is a product of marketing and commercialism without a doubt, so it makes sense that when they see the commercial aspect somehow being threatened (even though the reality of it is that it isn’t), they get freaked out. The commercial aspect of celebrating Christmas is easy to understand I think… what I have trouble figuring out is why people are so scared that “Happy Holidays” will somehow change their Christmas traditions and whatever it is they get out of Christmas… that’s the part I’m not getting. Even if the whole world decided not to celebrate Christmas… it wouldn’t change the fact that I still would, and I’d do it the way I always have… how did we all become so paranoid?

Christmas might not be a religious thing anymore for the majority….but for some Christ is still in Christmas. I think its interesting…that even jewish people ( i used to work at a Jewish daycar) celebrate Christmas…the parents said they do that so their kids dont feel left out…

That’s interesting… I actually dated a Jewish guy who, in order to continue dating me after a few months, wanted me to promise that I’d raise our kids Jewish. When I suggested that we could maybe introduce them to both religions and they could celebrate both, he said he couldn’t do that because he wouldn’t feel like a good Jew. Needless to say… that pretty much ended that.

Try living in Atlanta, the GLBT/San Fran/Black Mecca of the south, not to mention the counties surrounding us. I don’t think I need to go there. Quite a clash.
