Ten Best Things About Paying Off Your Student Loans…
10. You will never get another email or letter from Sallie Mae explaining deferment and cancellation options that you don’t qualify for because you’re not a nurse and you’re not a member of the Peace Corp.
9. The money you make because you earned that degree can now go to something besides earning that degree.
8. Your credit rating just jumped a few points.
7. You will save yourself the time it takes to write out a check each month, and the 37 cent stamp which you always forget to buy when you go to the market (btw– I calculated that I paid $39.96 in postage in paying back my loan over the course of the life of the repayment period until I started paying online… I will essentially save that over the next 9 years… whoo-hoo!)
6. You just realized how intelligent of a decision it was NOT to go to grad school.
5. You no longer feel resentment toward your rich friends whose parents paid for their college education and the trip to Europe afterward. So now when you claim to have more character than they do, you’re actually telling the truth.
4. You can skip the chapter on student loan consolidation benefits in Suze Orman’s book, which will save you a half hour of reading.
3. There is one less company in existance that can legally file a lien against you.
2. You’ll never get to H&R Block and realize that you forgot the end-of-year statement that totaled how much of your interest payments were eligible for deduction.
1. You realize that if you can pay back $25,000 in student loans, accomplishing peace in the middle east shouldn’t be that difficult.
