As patriotic as I am, I do wish we’d switch to the Metric system. A system based on tens would be so much easier than the English system which is based on… threes? I don’t even know what ours is based on.
besides whats with the Fahrenheit scale? its bloody fucked up
Celsium scale atleast has a direct corelation with the Kelvin scale(which is the basis for temperature)
Come on, people… what’s wrong with you? There’s a long and storied history about “American standards”.
We all know that a foot was the standard length of a man’s foot. but did you know that an inch was the average width of a thumb? A cubit was the length from a man’s elbow to his outstretched middle finger? A yard (3 times a foot) was the distance from a man’s nose to his outstretched fingers? A grain (used in small measurements such as gunpowder, was the weight of a single grain of wheat (used originally by the Egyptians). The Arabs used a “karob” for measuring precious metals and gemstones — today, we call it a carot.
What does the metric system give us? A “simpler” standard thrust upon us by some bureaucratic moron who believes we should all be and act the same? No, thank you! I prefer my archaic standards — viva la difference!!
The title says it all…

even english use metric this days…
and its much more practical for all the calculations…

Ha, PJ!
psha-
how human-o-centric of you PJ
but i bet you dont do science for a living cos different standards play merry hell with my calculations….
But isn’t all science done using the metric system– even in the U.S.?
Nope,
you can (and sometimes must) switch systems many times during calculations…
Science schmience — you ought to have to program computer code for international usage!
Still, where would we be without Fahrenheit 459 — 237.222 Celsius???
Christopher: As an aside — is the rate of abortion per capita greater in metric countries or English standard nations?
lol…
Metric countries by far.
The metric system is sooo much easier…though it’s totally annoying that I can never remember how to convert from Celsius to Farenheit…
