I’m watching television last night, MSNBC to be exact an ok channel and I’m watching the people who are lined up for miles to view the Pope. It’s very touching, I’m not overly religious nor am I Catholic but you would have to be a complete dumbass not to realize the significance and the power the Pope wields. He is in my opinion the most power person on the planet, and he touches so many people in deep and profound ways. So MSNBC has a Vatican analysis, and he was talking about who the new Pope will be and the first thing out of his mouth was “Whoever the new Pope is, it is most important that he be T.V friendly”, this made me stop… grind me teeth together and just start muttering to myself. Now before you get all defensive and say “but he’s right” THAT ISN’T MY POINT. I understand the fucked up media driven society we live in, I really do but of all the traits I think a pope should have.. I think being “T.V.” friendly is pretty low on my list.. how about we just start with some that would be important to me. Honest, Ingretiy, Intelligent, Leader, Caring.. those are just a few! I mean arn’t we all tired of T.V preachers? Shouldn’t the leader of the worlds most powerful church kind of be exempt from needing this trait… the fact is people will connect more with someone who isn’t slick.. people like someone who stumbles over words on occasion it makes them human. Just my 2 cents.

Quite frankly… and here’s my 2 cents… I don’t give a flying crap who the next pope is or if he’s t.v.-friendly or anything like that. I’m not Catholic, and in my opinion, the Pope is nothing more than a figurehead of a very corrupt institution whose primary goal is to talk people into having more children than they can afford so the Catholic congregation can continue to grow. The Catholic religion is one of the largest organizations in the world and they didn’t get that way by not being business minded… but I think they dupe a lot of people into doing things that aren’t in their best interest here on earth, nor to help them find redemption in the afterlife, but because Catholocism wants to remain strong for a very long time. Is the pope powerful? Sure… remember when everyone was up in arms over all the Catholic priests that were molesting little boys? How quickly we forget… The Catholic church (including the pope, because no organization functions effectively without a leader) successfully swept that right under the rug… and America forgave and forgot… if some half-wit construction worker down the street touched your child in a back alley, you’d make sure that asshole ended up in Lompoc… a priest does it… a priest– someone, I might add, who we are supposed to trust and follow and believe he is somehow closer to God than the rest of us… and we all just go… “That sucks.” In my opinion, someone who is charged with the trust and responsibility of helping people, and then violates that trust, is worse than the pedophile construction worker.
So yes… the pope is powerful. Is he more powerful than President Bush? Not even close…
Does he need to do this or that or whatever to be a good pope? Who the fuck cares? They all do the same thing– act as a figurehead for the church. Can anyone even tell me what great feats the previous pope accomplished? If you can, please do… because they were apparently not significant enough to affect me or my life.
So while it’s sad when anyone who was considered “a good person” dies, I find it very ironic that the same people who are mourning and making a big deal out of it, are people who only go to mass once a year anyway. Maybe they should spend less time trying to jump onto the “Let’s mourn the dead pope” bandwagon, and more time actually being good Christians… just a thought.
Alright now..
First I completely disagree with Chrissy that the Catholic Church is it currupt.. it probably is but no more the any other organization. Does it promote people having more babies then they can afford.. no. It promotes docturn that it believes was handed down by God, but since Christine speaks personally with God she knows that the Catholic church actually just wants to make the world a worst place by promoting babies… and a culture of life.. go figure. It’s good that we have Christine here to set us straight on what our morals should be. The Catholic chruch does not promote people having babies so they can grow their membership.. that is just a crazy statement that invalidates any valid point you might have had.. (but I didn’t actually see any of those so no worries).
The fact is that less then .1% of 1% preachers molested children means that generally a vast majority do not molest children at all … most preachers and religious poeple are good people that find molesting children very appauling. It’s sad that the pope was so sick during the molestation issues. Christine is a little mislead about where the world power ‘s are.. is the president powerful.. yes he is, but are 1 billion people influneced by what he say’s they should believe? No.
Nobody can tell you what the previous Pope accomplished because none of us were alive! and since the last pope was only pope for 1 year (John Paul I) he probaby didn’t do a whole lot.. but if Christine actually researched what the pope does or how the Catholic church affects the world she would have known that. Mostly Pope’s do work molding the “morals”s of the world but they also do alot in forgien relationship such as relationships between the middle east, and europe or communists and western democracy. Just because they uphold “tradition church values” in regards to divorce, contraception, absence (yes you shouldn’t have sex untill your married..hrmm Christine really seems like they want people just making babies!) ect ect… doesn’t mean they are just one big organization that doesn’t do anything or is only in it for their own good.
Okay… Christopher basically missed every point I was making, so I’ll outline this and number it to make it more clear…
1. It doesn’t matter how many priests molest children. The fact that the Catholic church covered up even one (even if he were the only one out a million priests) makes the institution corrupt. If only one employee out of a company of a thousand employees steals, that doesn’t make all the employees thiefs. But if the company covers it up, pretends it didn’t happen, pays off the people he stole from, and then continue to employ him, then the company is corrupt. So 1% of whatever means nothing… it’s about the response of the organization in accepting behavior like that.
2. I’m not trying to pass off my morals on anyone… I didn’t even mention morals. But is it in the best interest of some poor Mexican who makes $8 an hour washing cars while his wife works part-time making $7 an hour cleaning motel rooms to have another kid when they already have six who are barely getting enough to eat as is, because Catholocism tells them that using birth control is wrong? Hrmmmm… let me think real hard on that… no. It’s not. Is it best for the rest of us who’s taxes pay for the social programs to give health care to kid #7 because mommy and daddy don’t have health insurance? Hrmmm… no. Is it in the best interst of the church to have kid #7 grow up and have 7 kids of his own, all of which will come to church and donate what little bit of money they have in the collection plate? Sure… do the mat. 7 times 7 times 7… So the only entity that really benefits from telling people not to use birth control… isn’t us, isn’t the poor families… it’s the Catholic Church.
3. Christopher… so are you suggesting you uphold the traditional Christian value of abstinence? And you shouldn’t have sex with a girl you’re not married to? From what I read of your other posts… and the fact that you “get laid so much,” makes me think that you might be the pot calling the kettle black.
3. I never said the Catholic Church as an organization didn’t do anything good. Christopher likes to put words in my mouth. Sure… The Catholic charities provide food for the hungry, help the homeless, provide job training, etc. They definitely do worthwhile things… but no lasting organization does things just for the hell of it. There is an outcome– a positive financial outcome– of doing those things or they wouldn’t do it. In addition, the more non-Catholics they can job train, or feed, or whatever, the more chances they have at spreading Catholic doctrine and converting those who come into contact with them. Why do you think the Christian organizations that feed needy children in southeast Asia do that? It’s not because they want to feed needy kids… hell, there are plenty of needy kids here in the U.S. that could use their help. It’s because they want to convert all those needy little kids to Christianity, and coming in like knights in shining armor with food that the people there desperately need, gives them (1) a receptive audience who automatically thinks they’re wonderful, and (2) a reason to be there and spread their beliefs. The outcome wouldn’t be the same by helping needy little children here… so they don’t. Does that mean they’re not doing something helpful? No… of course they are. Does it mean that they’re using “help” to further their own interests. Hell, yeah.
4. I would hope that one billion people aren’t influenced by what the pope says they should believe. Last time I checked, and I am Christian myself, was that you were supposed to believe what comes from the Bible, not any one human. And for most non-Catholic Christians, the idea that in order to receive absolution for your sins from God you must go through a priest during confession and say a bunch of Hail Mary’s is just ridiculous. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that chanting Hail Mary’s will get you forgiven. But priests need to justify their existence in order to maintain their stronghold, and these clever little rituals and beliefs are designed to do exactly that.
5. And quite frankly… in theory, all of the preachy stuff sounds good. Don’t get a divorce. Well, if my husband hits me, you’re damn right I’m getting a divorce. I love how they look at only part of the picture… where’s the part that says don’t hit your spouse? Don’t cheat on him/her? They focus more on certain do’s/don’ts than others because it’s in their best interest to do so. People should only be having children if they can afford to give them a decent life… and that’s why rational, logical people, who can think for themselves, often get married and decide not to have children right away. Because as rational, logical people, they can make that decision for themselves and they don’t need the Pope to tell them that they will all be better off not using birth control, having lots of kids they can’t afford, just so they can all go to Heaven. Are we just a society that can’t think for ourselves? I’m not.
I think you just write such fucking long responses to overwelm me with words because I can’t possibly read so much in one sitting. Fucking women.
How the fuck did you get through college? Or did you get the degree on your wall (from a very decent university I might add) from a cereal box?
Besides… if you’d just listen to the excellent points I make the first time, I wouldn’t have to repeat myself over and over and break it down as if splitting atoms.
Ok woman, I was going to give you a pass.. but you managed to egg me on enough to issue a beatdown.
1. It does matter how many priests molest children, if hardly any do it and they are settling with the victims to end the matter that pretty much settles the issue. To the best of my knowledge there are no more priests that molested children still preaching.. that matter seems to have worked itself out. I mean what do you really want? They admited there was an issue, the settled the issue with the victims, they fired the priests… did they cover up at one time yes… is it the end of the world… no it’s typically what is to be expected from any organization or person.. it is human nature for an organization or person to coverup wrong doing.
2. Here you go picking on the spics again… please stop being so racist. Mexician’s arn’t the only ones that have babies they can’t afford, I assure you the catholocism isn’t the reason for all the babies running around it’s a culture thing, Mexican’s like big families, white people like lots of money.. it’s a trade off. Want to fix all these babies that are being supported for free just close the boarders, then we won’t have 20% of the population of L.A county being illigal and supported by the tax payers.
3. It seems as if you are suggesting that I do not have upstanding and pristine morals.. I take offense to that, sure I enjoy a good piece of ass as much of hte next guy but that doesn’t mean that I don’t think abstinence is a good idea.. besides that isn’t my point.. the point was they actually preach abstinence, sooooo it’s not like they are saying.. please go make some babies so we can grow our membership.. they are saying.. hey wait until your married to make babies so we can grow our membership.
4. It’s ok that you can’t count now.. (you have three twice) I’ll do it for you.. so on your point #4. I would like to put things in your mouth but the one thing I do not need to put in your mouth is words.. so no while you didn’t expressly say that the Catholic church does no good you did imply that. As for why they do things, yes it is in their best interests to do charity work.. but they are also generally not bad people so they would want to do it also, I mean your not seeing the DNC lining up to feed people after a tornado in Nebraska.. even tho it would help their image and be in their best interest.
5. Well last time I checked there are 1.07 billion with a B catholics in the world which is slighly above 50% of total Christians. Catholics do tend to be influcence by the Pope and the guildines he sets down.. which tend to be the guildlines that religious leaders have set down for thousands of years dating back to the time of Jesus. Your not very tolerant of other people.. you know that Christina, I sense alot of pent up range toward the Catholic religion, there you go misplacing your anger again. Let me ask you this.. have you read the Bible? Hrmm… and do you think the Bible is the only religious document? There are lot of ancient documents millions of them infact from that time with different rituals and things… no they arn’t all put in the bible.. but since the bible was assmebled by humans.. they did pick and choose what to put in there.. what about the stuff that didn’t make the cut is it not important? Should it just be ignored? I didn’t realize you were such an expert on theology.
6. Hmm it does say don’t covet your neighbor’s wife.. don’t do harm to other people.. those probably pretty much seem to fall into the don’t beat the shit out of your wife and don’t cheat on her catagories. People should only have children when they can afford to.. now there is some logic.. so now poor people should be depribed of having a family.. and joys of parenthood. Your evil woman!
1. Poor people should not be deprived the joys of having a family or being married to a little bundle of joy like yourself. So… are you saying that if one kid makes you really happy, then 10 kids makes you 10 times as happy? ‘Cause from the kids I see… the ones who can actually afford a trip to Disneyland seem a lot happier than the ones who are rummaging through trash bins outside of my work with their parents, looking for recyclable cans… just an observation.
2. There are religious documents that are not the Bible… like all the shit about John Smith that the Mormons try to pass off as some sort of religious source book… they were ALL written by people, so I don’t see what point you’re trying to make. Cult leaders write books on theology too… that doesn’t make them actual religious documents now does it?
The most disturbing thing about your comment was that you seem to pass off that the Catholic church covered up the crimes of pedophile priests. Shouldn’t an organization founded on preaching what’s moral and right hold themselves to a higher standard than some other organization (like Enron or something?) I think so… if they don’t, then they’re hipocrites… and you don’t get to just buy your way out of the consequences of what society has deemed illegal… if that were the case, the Kennedys and the Waltons could go around killing anyone they want and then “just settle” with the families. It would be like Hussein’s family did in Iraq. In this country, there are criminal cases and civil cases. You settle with the victim of your crime in a civil case. The state brings charges against you for crimes you commit… and it shouldn’t matter how rich you are or whether or not you’ve got the Catholic church behind you. Our entire justice system is based on “justice is blind,” meaning it doesn’t matter how rich you are or if you wear a black robe with a white collar… you commit a crime, and you pay the price.
1. Yes maybe it does. I mean a woman should have a “right” to have as many babies as she wants right??
2. Sometimes you are so incredible clueless, but that is ok.
I’m not trying to pass it off, I think your trying blow something out of proportion if there is a million priest and 10 of them molest children and those children are paid for their pain and suffering quickly and without having to go through the public humiliation of taking the church to court.. that seems like it worked out alright. I mean they did admit something bad happened to it and they took care of the problem as much as this typeof problem can ever be fixed.. there will always be sick fucks who want to touch children.. i mean look at wacko jacko. As in American you most certainly do get to buy your way out of mistakes.. or did you miss the O.J and Robert Blake or the Kobe trials? It does matter how rich you are (as it should.. I mean being rich should hav it’s privilages)
1. So you’re saying a woman has a right to choose? That’s so unlike you…
Of course a woman should be able to decide how many (or few) babies she wants… but if having a whole bunch of kids that she can’t afford makes her happy despite the fact that those kids will most likely not have the basic things that most children get to have… that makes her pretty selfish. Being a mother isn’t about what you want… it’s about what’s best for your kids.
2. I’m not clueless, I just don’t accept that pedophiles should be able to buy their way out paying for their crimes. Yes, OJ, Kobe, and Robert Blake probably did it… but that doesn’t make it right. If the church pays off a victim of a pedophile priest, that’s not taking care of the problem. It’s sending a message to priests and everyone else that if you’re backed by the Catholic Church, you’re above the law. But it’s not fixed to the point it could be fixed… since we can’t go back and erase the molestation to that child. But we can make sure it doesn’t happen to any more kids by sending that piece of ordained shit to prison for the rest of his life… then it would be fixed to the best possible point.
And for the most part, I disagree with your last statement… being rich has its privileges… but being above the law isn’t one. Ask Skakel or the Max Factor rapist how they feel about that one… because in their situations the American legal system actually worked.
